No visit to Kenya is complete without a trip
to the 149 Islands in the Lake Victoria, fish and birds` paradise,
the second largest fresh water lake in the world and the source
of the river Nile. A chance to explore fascinating region can be

in a patch work of forests, villages and farmland until the hills
surrounding Lake Victoria signal your arrival.

you on the Islands-: [ Mfangano, Rusinga or Takawiri] and then the
day is yours to fish, bird- watching, swimming or simply explore
the natural beauty of the Island and their shores. Lake Victoria
is a fisherman’s paradise. Nile perch abound and the record
catch for Lake Victoria weighed over 700 pounds. Fish over 100 pounds
are regularly caught from well equipped boats each powered by twin
outboard engines.
Fish eagles perch like sentries on
top of trees and rocks on the Islands. They suddenly swoop for fish
lying on the lake surface allowing fantastic photographic opportunity.
On Mfangano, Rusinga Islands there
is so much to do; these are paradise for bird watchers, with over
600 species of recorded birdlife. Spotted –necked otters [unique
to Lake Victoria] giant monitor lizards and hippos are all residents
here. There is also the chance to visit the famous archeological
site of Dr. Mary Leaky where many important discoveries have been
made.

Lake Victoria has:-
a) 149 island in the whole of East Africa- 28 in Kenya, 97 in Uganda,
24 in Tanzania.
b) Source of River Nile is within Lake Victoria near Rusinga Island.
c) The miraculous site/ place of sacrifice- Mfangano Island.
d) Nyama ni ware the historic rocks in Lake Victoria that were formed
from the two fighting bulls.
e) Atego Island- World of living dead- seeing the sprits of the
dead continues living.
f) Migingo Island- miraculous fire outbreaks with nothing actually
burnt after the fires.
g) Dr. Mary Leakey’s site of discoveries – [the remains
of Zinjanthropus]. Also the foot prints of what the locals believe
to belong to a god.
h) Mageta Island – detention camp i.e. for Ronald Ngala, Dedan
Kimathi etc
i) Lake Victoria as a paradise for birds watchers;
